Materials needed:
- An old room door full of memories and history
- Wood sealant or paint for a fresh coat of paint
- Wooden board in case the glass on top is broken
- Chalkboard paint
- cord
- door handle
- wine crate or fruit crate
- Hook rail or wall hooks
- Decorative elements (e.g. lamp, candle, picture frame etc.)
- We begin by removing all dust, cobwebs, and other remnants from our old interior door. Then we carefully sand it and give it a fresh coat of wood sealant or paint.
- Should the glass at the top be broken, we will carefully remove it and replace it with a suitable wooden panel to close the peephole and give the door a new look.
- We sand the inside of the upper frame and paint it twice with chalkboard paint. This creates a practical chalkboard surface on which we can record our creative ideas.
- For a personal touch, we decorate the frame of our chalkboard with a pretty cord, giving it an individual and rustic feel. A little tip: the cord is perfect for attaching a piece of chalk :)
- We then install a nostalgic door handle on the door, not only to give it a practical use, but also to underline the history of the last 100 years.
- To create a practical shelf at the bottom of the door for magazines and other items we want to keep within easy reach, we cut an old wine or fruit crate in half. We can then screw this to the bottom of the door.
- For additional hanging options, we attach an old hook rail to the top of the door or attach individual hooks or knobs according to our taste.
- Finally, we add the finishing touches to our decorative door by decorating it according to our personal style and taste. With a few thoughtful details, our large decorative door will become a highlight in our home.
